Confort ye, comfort ye my people, 慰めよ、わたしの民を慰めよと
saith your God. あなたたちの神は言われる。
Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, エルサレムの心に語りかけ
and cry unto her, 彼女に呼びかけよ
that her warfare is accomplish'd, 苦役の時は今や満ち、
that her iniquity is pardon'd. 彼女の咎は償われた、と。
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness: 呼びかける声がある。

the crooked straight, and the rough places plain. 険しい道は平らに、狭い道は広い谷となれ。

And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, 主の栄光がこうして現われるのを
and all flesh shall see it together, 肉なる者は共に見る。
for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. 主の口がこう宣言される。

Thus saith the Lord, the Lord of Hosts: まことに、万軍の主はこう言われる。
Yet once a little while and I will shake わたしは、間もなくもう一度
the heavens and the earth, 天と地を、
the sea and the dry land. 海と陸地を揺り動かす。
And I will shake all nations; 諸国の民をことごとく揺り動かし
and the desire of all nations shall come. 諸国のすべての民の財宝をもたらす
The Lord, whom ye seek, あなたたちが待望している主は
shall suddenly come to His temple, 突如、その聖所に来られる。
even the messaenger of the Covenant, あなたたちが喜びとしている
whom ye delight in; 契約の使者
behold, He shall come, 見よ、彼が来る、
saith the Lord of Hosts. と万軍の主は言われる。
 
6. Air (Alto)But who may abide the day of His coming
But who may abide the day of His coming, だが、彼の来る日に誰が身を支えうるか。
and who stand when He appeareth? 彼の現われるとき、誰が耐えうるか。
For He is like a refiner's fire. 彼は精練する者の火のようだ。

And He shall purify the sons of Levi, 彼はレビの子らを清める。

and shall call His name Emmanuel, その名をインマヌエルと呼ぶ。

O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion, 高い山に登れ
get thee up into the high mountain. 良い知らせをシオンに伝える者よ。
O thou that tellest good tidings to Jerusalem, 力を振るって声をあげよ
lift up thy voice with strength; 良い知らせをエルサレムに伝える者よ。
lift it up, be not afraid; 声をあげよ、恐れるな。
say unto the cities of Judah, ユダの町々に告げよ。
behold your God! 見よ、あなたたちの神。
Arise, shine, for thy Light is come, 起きよ、光を放て。あなたを照らす光は昇り
and the glory of the Lord is upon thee. 主の栄光はあなたの上に輝く。

O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion, 良い知らせをシオンに伝える者よ。
good tidings to Jerusalem, 良い知らせをエルサレムに伝える者よ。
arise, say unto the cities of Judah, 起きよ、ユダの町々に告げよ。
behold your God! 見よ、あなたたちの神。
the glory of the Lord is upon thee. 主の栄光はあなたの上に輝く。

For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, 見よ、闇は地を覆い
and gross darkness the people; 暗黒が国々を包んでいる。
but the Lord shall be seen upon thee, しかし、あなたの上には主が輝き出で
and His glory shall be seen upon thee. 主の栄光があなたの上に現われる。
And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, 国々はあなたを照らす光に向かい
and kings to the brightness of thy rising. 王たちは射し出でるその輝きに向かって歩む。

The people that walked in darkness 闇の中を歩む民は、
have seen a great light; 大いなる光を見
and they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, 死の陰の地に住む者の上に
upon them hath the light shined. 光が輝いた。

For unto us s Child is born, ひとりのみどりごがわたしたちのために生まれた。
unto us a Son is given, ひとりの男の子がわたしたちに与えられた。
and the government shall be upon His shoulder; 権威が彼の肩にある。
and His name shall be called その名は、
Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, 「驚くべき指導者、力ある神
the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.  永遠の父、平和の君」と唱えられる。

keeping watch over their flocks by night. 夜通し羊の群れの番をしていた。

And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, すると、主の天使が近づき、
and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, 主の栄光が周りを照らしたので、

And the angel said unto them: Fear not, 天使は言った。「恐れるな。
for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, わたしは、民全体に与えられる
which shall be to all people. 大きな喜びを告げる。
For unto you is born this day 今日ダビデの町で、あなたがたのために
in the city of David a Savior, 救い主がお生まれになった。
which is Christ the Lord. この方こそ主メシアである。」

a multitude of the heavenly host, 天の大軍が加わり、

and peace on earth, 地には平和、

shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! 娘エルサレムよ、歓呼の声をあげよ。
Behold, thy King cometh unto thee; 見よ、あなたの王が来る。
He is the righteous Saviour,
and He shall speak peace unto the hearthen. 諸国の民に平和が告げられる。

and the ears of the deaf unstopped. 聞こえない人の耳が開く。

He shall feed His flock like a shepherd; 主は羊飼いとして群れを養い、
and He shall gather the lambs with His arm, 御腕をもって集め
and carry them in His bosom, 小羊をふところに抱き、
and gently lead those that are with young. 導いて行かれる。
Come unto Him, all ye that labour, 「疲れた者、重荷を負う者は、
come unto Him that are heavy laden, だれでもわたしのもとに来なさい。
and He will give you rest. 休ませてあげよう。
Take His yoke upon you, and learn of Him, わたしは柔和で謙遜な者だから、
for He is meek and lowly of heart, わたしの軛を負い、わたしに学びなさい。
and ye shall find rest unto your souls. そうすれば、あなたがたは安らぎを得られる。」
 
18. ChorusHis yoke is easy, and His burthen is light
His yoke is easy, and His burthen is light. 「わたしの軛は負いやすく、わたしの荷は軽いからである。」

Behold the Lamb of God, 見よ、世の罪を取り除く
that taketh away the sin of the world. 神の子羊だ。

He was despised and rejected of men, 彼は軽蔑され、人々に見捨てられ、
a man of sorrows 多くの痛みを負い、
and acquainted with grief. 病を知っている。
He gave His back to the smiters, 打とうとする者には背中をまかせ、
and His cheeks to them ひげを抜こうとする者には
that plucked off the hair: 頬をまかせた。
He hid not His face 顔を隠さずに、
from shame and spitting. 嘲りと唾を受けた。

He was wounded for our transgressions, 彼が刺し貫かれたのはわたしたちの背きのためであり、
He was bruised for our iniquities; 彼が打ち砕かれたのは、わたしたちの咎のためであった。
the chastisement of our peace was upon Him. 彼の受けた懲らしめによって、わたしたちに平和が与えられ、

He trusted in God that He would deliver Him; 「主に頼んで救ってもらうがよい。
let Him deliver Him, if He delight in Him. 主が愛しておられるなら、助けてくださるだろう。」

He is full of heaviness.
He looked for some to have pity on Him,
but htere was no man,
neither found He any to comfort Him.

like unto His sorrow.

for the transgressions of Thy people
was He stricken.

to see corruption.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates;

and the King of Glory shall come in.
Who is the King of Glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
the Lord mighty in battle.

and the King of Glory shall come in.
Who is this King of Glory?
The Lord of Hosts,
He is the King of Glory.

Thou art My Son,
this day have I begotten Thee?

Let all the angels of God worship Him.

yea, even from Thine enemies,

and their words unto the ends of the world.
 
36. Air (Basso)Why do the nations so furiously rage together
Why do the nations so furiously rage together,
and why do the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth rise up,
and the rulers take counsel together
against the Lord,
and against His Anointed.
 
37. ChorusLet us break their bands asunder
Let us break their bands asunder,
and cast away their yokes from us.
 
. Recitative (Tenore)He that dwelleth in the heaven
He that dwelleth in the heaven
shall laugh them to scorn;
the Lord shall have them in derision.
 
38. Air (Tenore)Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron;
thou shalt dash them in pieces
like a potter's vessel.

Hallelujah: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
The kingdom of this world
is become the kingdom of our Lord,
and of his Christ;
and He shall reign for ever and ever.

I know that my Redeemer liveth,
and that he shall stand
at the latter day upon the earth.
And though worms destroy this body,
yet in my flesh shall I see God.
For now is Christ risen from the dead,
the firstfruits of them that sleep.
 
41. ChorusSince by man came death
Since by man came death,
by man came also
the resurrection of the dead.
For as in Adam all die,
even so in Christ
shall all be made alive.
 
42. Accompagnato (Basso)Behold, I tell you a mystery
Behold, I tell you a mystery;
we shall not all sleep,
but we shall all be changed
in a moment,
in the twinkling of an eye,
at the last trumpet.
 
43. Air (Basso)he trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be rais'd
The trumpet shall sound,
and the dead shall be raised incorruptible,
and we shall be changed.
For this corruptible
must put on incorruption
and this mortal
must put on immortality.

Then shall be brought to pass
the saying that is written:
Death is swallowed up in victory.

O grave, where is thy victory?
The sting of death is sin,
and the strength of sin is the law.

who giveth us the victory

Who shall lay anything
to the charge of God's elect?
It is God that justifieth,

yea rather, that is risen again,

and hath redeemed us
to God by His blood,
to receive power, and riches, and wisdom,
and strength, and honour,

be unto Him
